In 2025 the government partnered with Blue NAP to launch the first sovereign AI-IaaS platform in the Caribbean — GPU processing sold at $3 per hour, with a $2M initial investment and a further $25M earmarked for a new subsea cable. This isn't a hyperscale pitch. It's a sovereign AI pitch, priced for regional teams.
Cloud Carib and the Gaia-X Caribbean Hub
Cloud Carib has invested over $7M across the region to build sovereign cloud pods. A new pod went live in Curaçao in 2026, plugged into a distributed regional architecture reaching The Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados, Panama, and Ecuador.
The Gaia-X Caribbean Hub launched via the Caribbean Data Center Association (CDA) in 2026 puts an EU-style compliant, interoperable data-governance layer on top of that fabric. Operators shopping for sovereign hosting suddenly have a regulatory story to point at.
What it means for buyers
If you're a regional cloud, a bank, a healthcare tenant, or a government workload owner, the Curaçao stack is now credible on its own terms — not as a hyperscale substitute. Continent 8's announcement of a second Tier IV on the island adds a second-source option to the mix.
For anyone deploying, commissioning, or maintaining infrastructure in this ecosystem, the operational reality is the same as EMEA: strict Cx, documented SLAs, engineers on the floor. The scale is smaller. The rigor isn't.
